In recent centuries, Marpingen - parish in the diocese of Trier / Germany - has become a place of Marian devotion.

Its population was still imploring the help of the Blessed Virgin in the daily difficulties.

 In 1699,

while a contagious deadly disease raging in the town, the people made this promise to Our Lady :

“during the Angelus prayer, to kneel and pray every Saturday at noon so solemn as the great festivals”.

At that time everyone had to stop working. In the parish church and the fountain of Mary "Marienbrunnen",

the rosary was prayed in community.

The prayer was granted, and suddenly the deadly toll stopped. This tradition continues until today with the rosary before

Mass every Saturday and Sunday, except during the years of the French Revolution, where everything happened in secret.
